Apple’s New iPhone Availability in Canada?
Steve Jobs officially announced the much anticipated Apple iPhone during the opening keynote yesterday at Macworld 2007. The phone has been in production for five years and features a 3.5inch touch wide screen display, core animation based on OSX, a rich HTML email client and a ton of other bells and whistles. Initial price points are a little heavy starting at $499USD for a 4GB and $599 for an 8GB model. iPhone will be available exclusively this June through Cingular, the largest US wireless carrier.
That’s swell for US residents, but what about Canadians? When can we expect the iPhone in Canada? It turns out that Apple will not be releasing a CDMA version of the iPhone which eliminates Bell/Aliant as a carrier. Looks like we’re stuck with Rogers, the largest Canadian GSM wireless carrier. If there’s one thing Canada lacks it’s a good ol’ battle between Telecommunications providers.
I have spoken with several representatives from Rogers regarding the availability of the iPhone and it turns out that they are in fact planning on providing the iPhone to Canadians. There are no official statements but the average wait time is 6-8 months minimum once they become available in the US (check the track record with previous smartphones). I’m also told the iPhone will be available on a two or three year contract, and a data plan must also be purchased (data plans in Canada aren’t cheap). Looks like an accurate release date in Canada is sometime Q4 2007 and into early 2008. About the same time that the phone will be available to European carriers.

CANADA IS RANKED ONE OF THE WORST COUNTRIES WITH MOBILE SERVICES. WORSE THEN MOST DEVELOPING COUNTRIES!!!
the iphone is only going to be sold under rogers network coverage? thats totally a joke cause up in northern Ontario, bell canada is the best. up here there is rogers coverage but it is so minimal your always fighting to have just one bar anyways thats sad that bell cannot carry the iphone I was looking forward to get one….guesss ill have to settle with the palms or mabey ill get a RAZOR2 its suppose to be tons better than the old razor (which I love) just a thought
lemme tell you Canadian boys who wants iPhone so badly….. I am in New York right now, and typing this on my iphone right now… All features are awesome on the phone and work as advertised.. Im a anti-mac boy to be honest, but this product won me over and made look at mac’s.
Now, coming to the point, most probably iphone will be available in canada on Q1 of 2008 for sure, and remember there is no reliable source to prove it,
I’ve been to canada and YES ROGERS SUCKS, i had real bad reception on regular phone itself.. and my call was dropped twice … thus I really suspect how they’re gonna support reliable data transfers ! Anyway the gadget is really cool in my hand, and it makes heads turn at you when its outta pocket.
And for those who are waiting for iphone 2, you are really missing the fun today …… Wont u be paying for ur own joy ?? I would… And hey i understand the rogers factor and availability issues …. Feel sorry …..
My advice … Dont miss it if it comes by …. Enjoy folks …

i have a source that owns a rogers store that says the iphone will be relased in canada on rogers mid december.
I am not going to give details because it would take hours but rogers is the worst! From customer services to prices they suck!
I was pretty excited to get the iphone for me and christmas present for hubby but until I have ANY other option than rogers I’ll have to wait.
Whoever IFUNKY is must have been payed to say that roger’s reception is great and they are soo awful to deal with. I was paying $$ when they screwed up instead of calling because when I do call I get transferred around for 2 hrs before I get cut off.
I will definately wait until the iphone is more competitve with other phones.
I want an iphone
when are they actually comming to Canada
